Career Highlights

Lisa started her career in 1987 as an employment lawyer with Duke Power Company.  Later, she became Duke’s Director of Federal Governmental Affairs, advocating the company’s policy positions on key energy issues with members of Congress and their staffs.  In 1996, she returned to a legal role, handling commercial contracts for power marketing and nuclear generation and taking on responsibility for Duke’s nuclear regulatory matters.  In 2002, Lisa was tapped to lead the nuclear legal group at Duke Energy Corporation.  In this role, she handled U.S. and international nuclear regulatory, commercial, and corporate issues and served as Secretary to the Nuclear Oversight Committee of Duke’s Board of Directors.  In 2010, she took on the role of Special Advisor to the Chairman and CEO, providing advice on an array of subjects, including project management and nuclear policy issues.

In 2011, Lisa moved to Winston & Strawn LLP as a partner in its nuclear practice group.  She represented a diverse client base, including nuclear power plant licensees in the private and government sectors, nuclear suppliers, and individuals.  In 2016, she became General Counsel and Secretary of Toshiba America Energy Systems, where she led its legal, quality, and environmental health and safety teams and served as its corporate secretary and chief compliance officer. In 2018, she formed Lisa F. Vaughn, PLLC.
